About Sacred Goodbyes

I entered into this work professionally, after my mother died at home. We cared for her body ourselves and after after sitting vigil and honoring her at home with various rituals, I pushed her casket into the flames at her cremation. I had given birth to my babies at home and became a homebirth midwife, helping usher in new life. When my mother died, with my midwifing days behind me, I experienced the familiar energy. It was the same open door as we helped usher her out of this life. One an entrance, the other an exit. I knew then that I wanted to help others experience the death of a loved one in this manner, so I got some training and became a certified Death Midwife. My focus was mostly on the home funeral aspect of families caring for their deceased loved ones and keeping their bodies at home until they were buried or cremated. This had evolved to me taking on an End-of-Life Doula role, also helping people who want to take more control of their death through Voluntary Stopping Eating and Drinking (VSED), to my interest in Medical Assist in Dying (MAID). Sometimes the physical pain just becomes too much to bear and/or a person's quality of life has diminished to the point that they are done wanting to live before their bodies are quite ready to give up. I make no moral judgment and support VSED and MAID as a personal choice. This is sacred work and I help people to experience their goodbyes as sacred.
